Functional Muscle Fitness is proud to present to you, the FMF faithful, our new brother Functional Combat Academy. FCA is designed to provide all members the opportunity to experience professional level grappling training coached by established coaches and participated with MMA athletes. From our youth grappling to our adult grappling, FCA members will experience Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, Muay Thai, and so much more… And what is better you ask? FCA provides its members with UNLIMITED OPEN MAT TIME to roll around and practice their moves on fellow FCA members. No other facility allows this to take place. FCA will also be showcasing multiple training styles by having COMBAT CARDIO classes, YOUTH GRAPPLING classes, and YOGA ON THE MATS classes… just to name a few.

Grappling Specific Strength/Agility Training

Adult Grappling at FCA draws upon several martial art forms and wrestling styles that teach the fundamentals of both stand up and ground grappling. There is a heavy emphasis placed on footwork, set ups, throws, takedowns, and takedown defense. Ground instructors focus on positioning, transitions, the fundamentals of submissions, and submission defense.  Class structure varies but incorporates strength and agility training, detailed demonstrations of movements, drilling, situational and live grappling.

**This class is great for beginners, advanced wrestlers trying to learn BJJ, or BJJ athletes looking to improve their wrestling skills.

Youth Grappling at FCA creates BETTER grapplers & BETTER athletes. A heavy emphasis is placed on footwork, set ups, throws, takedowns, and takedown defense. Ground instructors will focus on positioning, transitions, the fundamentals of submissions, and submission defense. Classes will incorporate technique sessions with partner drilling and live wrestling.  Grappling specific strength and agility training, grappling games, and team competitions will also be utilized to increase overall athleticism and make it FUN!

Focus Mitt work is done one on one by appointment only. For athletes looking to sharpen their boxing skills focus mitts can increase accuracy, speed, and punching power.  It also is great for both your cardiovascular and muscular endurance. Even if you don’t want to be a fighter hitting focus mitts can be a fun way to get a great workout in while relieving yourself of un-needed stress!

“Cardio on the Mats” (COM) is performed on the wrestling mats under the Functional Combat Academy banner. COM involves movements that utilize heavy bags, heavy ropes, bodyweight, medicine balls, plyometrics, footwork, agility, bungees and grappling. If you are looking for a new and fun way to burn those extra calories, while getting into phenomenal shape without using weights and boring cardio, then this is your class. MMA and BJJ athletes will realize after one class how beneficial this style of training can be to enhance their game.

YOGA ON THE MATS is not your traditional yoga class. FMF brings in different instructors to show case different variations of stretching and YOGA. Traditional or functional, either way you will leave this class with either a relaxing sweat or a tough sweat. We guarantee that flexibility will be enhanced. So bring your yoga mats and we will take care of the rest!

FCA’s youth wrestling camps will give youth wrestlers a great opportunity to hone in on specific skills in a small group setting taught by special guest instructors and the FCA coaching staff.  All camps will have specific areas of concentration such as “Set-Ups, Fakes, and Finishes.”  Many youth wrestling camps throw so many moves at their athletes in a short amount of time that they retain very little. We believe that sometimes less is more and that is why we focus are clinics on specific areas of wrestling. This narrowed down approach to teaching allows our youth athletes to retain more of what they learn with us and put it to use on the mats.
